Kai,
Relate the web site to podcasting, especially the creative commons web site.

Copyright is very necessary in podcasting. There are many cases where if you do not copyright your work it will be stolen and used for something that you may not want it to be used for. Also many people will take it and call it their own. Such as if you sad that you wrought this. Even if you do copyright something there is still a chance that someone will try to use it for their own purposes. If you catch them you can press charges and they may face penalties such as paying the original author an x amount of money for what they did. Also if you make a video or podcast and use music that you down loaded off the internet and did not pay for, you may face the same consequences that were described above. If you need more info on copyright go to the creative commons web site. This is the web site that I use frequently for information

Copyright is a big part of podcasting. If you don’t copyright your work someone can take it and claim it as their own. Someone can still do this if you do copyright your work, but the difference is you can then do something about it. If your work is copyrighted and someone tries claiming that it is their work or uses your work without your permission then you can take them to court. If you take them to court and press charges, they can receive penalties in which they will have to pay you a certain amount of money.
Copyright laws can act the same way against you though. If you use someone else’s work without their permission then they can take you to court. If you are going to use an audio or video clip for one of your podcasts then you need the owner’s permission. There are some loopholes though. If you pay for a cd for instance, then you can use that music because you paid for the copyright laws of that cd. You can also use some written work, as long as you have it in quotations and credit the original source of the information.
This is the reason we need copyright. Copyrights are here to protect us and our work and give credit to our work. If we do not use copyrights then big consequences can follow such as fines and possible jail time.
